Nipple reduction is a procedure that aims to reduce the height and or the width of the nipple. The normal projection and width of the nipple is 10 x 10 mm.

Enlarged nipples can be caused by weight loss, weight gain, breast feeding or can sometimes run in the family. Enlarged protruding nipples can negatively impact people confidence and body image.

Nipple reduction is performed under local anaesthetic. A local anaesthetic injection will be used to numb the area and the procedure will then be pain free. An incision on the skin is made and a part of the nipple will be removed.
The wound is then closed using absorbable stitches and will be covered with a dressing.

Scars tend to fade away after few months. The exact aftercare will be all explained to you on the day of surgery and sutures are usually removed after 7-10 days.

95% of the cases are complications free, however, we have to make patients aware that with any sort of surgery there is a small risk of complications such as bleeding, infection, scarring, deformity, altered sensation or numbness.

There might also be a reduced ability to breastfeed for women.
